Konrad Curze the Night Haunter Book review spoiler free...ish

Konrad Curze the Night Haunter by Guy Haley.

The next book from the Primarch series is my absolute favorite. Although it is only a short novel, it doesn't detract from its quality. The setting for the story is the night the Night Haunter is to be killed by M'Shen. The Madness of Curze is in full flow, and he is justifying himself to a flesh statue he's made of the Emperor. This Justification takes the form of flashbacks, some are on Nostromo before the Primarch was found, some are after he was jettisoned into space by his brothers and was brought aboard a civilian ship. Guy Haley really focuses on the damaged mind of Curze and shows just exactly how he views the world. In a few parts of the novel, the view is focused on just how Curze feels about his genetic sons and really points out his hatred for them. You can see how the fact that he was the only Primarch to exist alone before being found, and how this damaged his personality.

Overall this novel covers a lot of ground in a short space but manages to not feel rushed or incomplete. There is not a lot of combat in this book, but there is gore and violence. The highlighted moments focused on the madness of Curze have the majority of this. The plot flows well and without any random tangents that take your focus away. If you enjoyed the Night Lords trilogy or wanted to see more about Konrad Curze, then this is a must read. For me, it sits right at the top of the list of my favorites of the Primarch series.
